Salary Commission staff conducted a telephone and internet survey of all states in November 2006. The following data shows how the Executive Branch elected officials ranked against their peers nationally in the 2006 survey. This data will be updated prior to our 2009 salary setting session.
It should be noted that the duties of most executive branch elected officials vary significantly from state to state.

Chief elections and corporations officer and supervisor of State Archives and State Library. |
| Treasurer |
Chief fiscal officer charged with managing the state's financial resources. |
| Auditor |
Conducts financial and performance audits of local government and state agencies. |
| Attorney General |
Legal officer for state government. Clients include all state agencies, boards, commissions, colleges, and universities as well as the Governor and Legislature. Must be a practicing attorney. |
| Superintendent of Public Instruction |
Chief officer and supervisor over all matters pertaining to K-12 public schools. |
| Commissioner of Public Lands |
Manages forest, agricultural, range, tidal, and shore lands; fire fighting on private and state forest land; and manages protected natural resource areas. |
| Insurance Commissioner |
Protects insurance consumers and assures the financial solvency of the insurance companies that operate in Washington. |
