Appointment Criteria

No state official, public employee, or lobbyist or immediate family member of the official, employee, or lobbyist is eligible for membership on the commission.

Statute requires that Commissioners:

  • Must be a resident of the state.
  • Congressional district appointees must reside in the district from where they were selected.
  • The seven legislative appointees must have personnel management experience.

The 16 citizen members serve without compensation but are reimbursed for their travel expenses to attend meetings.

Definitions

 

Public employee means a person who works for federal, state, or county government or local government such as a city or town, port district, public utility district, or fire district.

 

State Official means an elected official in the Executive, Legislative, or Judicial branch of state government.

 

Immediate family means the parents, spouse, siblings, children, or dependent relative of the official, employee, or lobbyist whether or not they live in the household of the official, public employee, or lobbyist.

Lobbyist is a person required to be registered to conduct lobbying work in the state of Washington.
